Visitors to Haines Bear Lodge are greeted by this massive carved grizzly bear. The bear was carved from a 1500 year-old redwood stump.
The main tree was cut down in the late 1800's by loggers in Northern California. The stump was discovered in 2003. It took two weeks to remove the stump with heavy equipment. The stump was then transported to Paso Robles, California, where it was carved by John Daniels into the awesome work of art that visitors to Bear Lodge can enjoy.
